Stress   or Relaxation?

I Don'T Have Time for a Hobby

There's on old cliche that says people have  time to do what they want to do.  We often spend our time in busyness and leave out things we think we don't have time for.  It's no different than making time for exercise, we make time for what is important to us.  Would you not agree?
Making time for a hobby not always easy in our hurry up world, especially if you have children that are busy with outside activities.
But first things first.  Everyone needs a relaxer, something they enjoy and doesn't stress them.  Actually a "relaxer" helps your overall productivity.  So view your hobby as your relaxer!
....... you have to decide what you would enjoy.  This will depend on your personality type.  Do you like details or are you a more fly by the seat of your pants kind of girl.   There are literally hundreds of Crafts and hobbies out there.  One idea, take a walk up and down the aisles of a Hobby Lobby or Micheal's... what catches your eye or looks interesting to you?
....... Take time to do a little research.  You can find all kinds of blogs, you-Tube videos, books and magazines on your interest.
What is the investment of your time and money?
....... Start small to see if you enjoy it.  Hobbies can be quite expensive, so see if you are going to enjoy before you make a big investment
........  Focus on the process and not the outcome. First projects are just test to see if you enjoy...just like a child does not learn to walk overnight, your first project may not turn  out the way you think is should.  To get good at anything in life requires repeated practice.  I love creating wreaths, but my relaxer is scrapbooking.  Crazy huh....and I have become good at both by sheer practice.  You can go back to my 1st blog and see my very first scrapbooking page and one I did later.
........Find someone who enjoys crafting too and schedule Craft days.  It always more fun to do things with a friend.
The biggest Challenge is to Start... So take time and seek out others who craft and ask to join them for a craft day, just as women love to shop together they love to craft together.  Your friend may have lots of supplies and would not require an investment until you see if you like it.  Just take a step forward and Just Do it!

By Kerrie Lytle September 12, 2019
Over the years I have learned a variety of crafts. Knitting, Crochet, Quilting, Scrapbooking, Card making, Wreath Making, and many more. I have never taken a formal class but I have used whatever outlet I could find to learn “how to”. Many people tell me they are not crafty. However, I believe that anyone can learn how to craft.. No one is great at it in the beginning but perseverance is the key. A prime example is the 1st scrapbook page shown below. Now, take a look at the more experienced page. It took time to develop that skill. Keep crafting and know you can do it!

Crafting is an outlet to explore your creative talents. I hear many people say “I have no creativeness.” But everyone is creative in some way. Crafting has so many areas. Scrapbooking/ card making is my first love, but I have enjoyed wreath making, mailbox covers, I have begun to try my hand at painting and wood working. I am always looking to try something new. How do you know if you will be good at it unless you try. The point is you just have to begin. So how do you start? I would first watch U-Tube videos to get an idea what is involved. Then once you decide, look at the space that is needed to do this craft. Next make your list of what you will need for this craft. Research where the best place to order or buy your supplies. Once you have supplies on hand you are ready to start. Do not get discouraged at your first attempt. The question you have to ask yourself is: “Did I enjoy the process of doing the craft?” If that answer is yes, then practice makes perfect…an old adage. Experiment, make it yours. To prefect your craft…watch more U-tube ideas, take a class, join groups. Pinterest is full of ideas. This process is the same no matter what you do. Just keep in mind this craft should satisfy your creative pulse and should be relaxing to you. If it is a stressor for you then it is not the right craft for you, Search again.
